Croydon (Post Code: 4871)

Located just south of the base of the Gulf of Carpentaria in Far North Queensland, the historic gold rush town of Croydon is 563km from Cairns.

It's a popular town, with a great community spirit, and well catered for with a public library, swimming pool, golf course, lawn bowls, a museum, a tourist information centre, caravan park and a primary school.

A rural town, 170km inland and 480km from Townsville, it was one of Queensland's busiest gold towns and, in its heyday, boasted more than a dozen hotels (1900).

Croydon is attracting an increasing number of tourists, keen to enjoy a true Outback experience, exceptional heritage and adventure, and it is the destination of the famous Gulflander train journey from Normantan.
