If you know nothing else about the Gascoyne, you've probably heard about - or dreamed about - diving with whale sharks at Ningaloo Reef. This, and the Shark Bay World Heritage Site are major tourism hotspots in the region.
This industry is also helped by the warm dry climate and the fact that the region includes 600km of coastline.
The Gascoyne, in the north west of WA, stretches about 500km inland, and includes the outstanding Kennedy Range and Mt Augustus.
The region boasts a diverse, balanced economy supported by a strong network of retail, administrative and trade services.
