With its interesting wartime history, Uranquinty sits about 15km from Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales, and is steadily growing, due to the completion of a $500 million power station.
At the end of 1940 Uranquinty was chosen as the base for No. 5 Service Flying Training School RAAF, for intermediate and advanced training of Empire Air Trainees.
And then at the Second World War, the Uranquinty Migrant Centre was established as a result of the Displaced Persons Immigration Scheme launched by Prime Minister Chifley's government, as a part of the Populate or Perish policy of the time.
Today Uranquinty is home to a $500 million power station, providing jobs and income to the town.
