Once upon a time the ancient Chinese art of feng shui was dismissed by many as mystic madness. But it's a different story today. Not only is feng shui often incorporated at the design and build stage of a property - residential and commercial - but there are even feng shui consultants for hire.
Feng shui is all about creating harmony between yourself and your environment. It is based on the Taoist belief that energy has different forms and that by following a few simple principles, it’s possible to encourage positive energy.
Here are some simple ideas to bring that positive energy and peace into your home.
The easiest way of doing this is to clear your rooms of clutter. Holding on to lots of unnecessary items will leave your home looking crowded and interrupt the flow. Look for storage solutions for the things you want to keep and get rid of the rest.
And while you are clearing out your space, be sure to place items such as tables and couches so there is a clear, unblocked path through the home. On a feng shui level, this will allow the flow of positive energy - but it will also avoid falling over unnecessary pieces of furniture!
Ensuring you have a good light source is an important element of feng shui, because light represents energy. Make the most of any natural daylight you have, or cheat a little by using pale paints and mirrors to create bright, light rooms.
Introducing plants into your home is great for boosting your connection with nature and is perfect for improving your feng shui – but only if you look after them. Dead or dying plants represent very negative energy and should be removed as quickly as possible.
The next one's a bit scary! If you are having trouble sleeping at night it could be the placement of your bed. A bed that is directly in line with the doorway is called the death position. Move the bed into a position where you can see the door but your feet do not point towards it!With a few simple changes you could boost both your well being and your good fortune, so why not give it a try!
